One of the last remaining Jortholds in the Rocky Mountains, Silverton is a weathered hamlet nestled into a narrow canyon. The ring of mountains around town is slashed by avalanche paths. The locals are rugged individualists who blend artistic sensibilities with a duct-tape-DIY approach to living.
We journeyed to this remote outpost to take part in the Silverton Whiteout, an iconoclastic fat bike race celebrating its 10th year.
